- Biberiyenin kanser önleyici özellikleri üstünde yapılan klinik deneyler, özellikle melanoma,[53] kolon kanseri,[54] meme kanseri,[55] yumurtalık kanseri,[56] prostat kanseri,[57] [58] karaciğer kanseri[59] [60] ve lösemi[61] (kan kanseri) tedavisinde etkin rol oynayabileceğini göstermiştir.
- Özellikle, laboratuvar fareleri üzerinde yapılan çalışmalar biberiyeden elde edilen “karnosol”un ve “karnosik asit”in meme kanseri ve kolon kanseri tümörleri üzerinde sitotoksik yani hücre yapısını bozucu etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Biberiye, mutfakta yemeğe lezzet katmak ve gıdanın raf ömrünü uzatmak için yaygın olarak kullanılan bir bitkidir. Avrupa Birliği, antioksidan [98], antimikrobiyal [99] ve antibakteryal [100] etkisi bulunan biberiye ekstraktının doğal, güvenli ve etkili gıda koruyucu olarak kullanılabileceğini kabul etmektedir. [101]
LÜTFEN DİKKAT:
Biberiye uçucu yağının içeriğinde %5–21 oranında kafur bulunmaktadır [102] ve bu nedenle ağızdan alınırken mutlaka uzman hekime danışılmalıdır. Kafur, toksik bir maddedir ve epilepsi benzeri nöbetlere, huzursuzluğa, kafa karışıklığına ve mide rahatsızlığına sebep olabilir [103]
